Art is Trash

As an artform, the mural is the oldest creative technique around. Dating back to 30,000BC in the late stone age. Egyptians made some pretty intense murals as recently as 3,150BC. They were as important then as they are now, depicting battle scenes, historical moments, religious beliefs or political/economical struggles. Part of the most recent, exclusive one-off works from Art Is Trash keeping his unique style of battles scenes with Native Americans as the main subjects. These works have been made fresh after his self-imposed month exodus in South America and are available only here!

Art is Trash” (El Arte Es Basura) is the street name of Barcelona-based artist Francisco de Pájaro, who takes action when he sees a pile of rubbish and creates art with it, rearranging boxes, garbage bags, broken furniture, old mattresses,….and then paints it, sticks it with tape, leaves his trademark moniker and walks away. During Sant Jordi in Barcelona many places that aren’t accessible to the public are open. Usually places like the city hall and so on. But the best Open house was at Francisco’s (AKA Art Is Trash) Studio in gothic.

Once upon a time there were the streets of Barcelona, a ton of rubbish and a dude called Francisco de Pajaro. When the three collided El Arte Es Basura AKA Art Is Trash was born.

At Base Elements we’re proud to have met him in his early days and humbled as we watch his work evolve. Barcelona isn’t the only town to be graced by his installations with London, Berlin, Nantes, France, Dubai, New York, Chicago and Miami now on the Trash List.

It was only a matter of time before a big commission came along but no one expected it to be an abandoned hotel!
Francisco was asked to take the new Converse Chuck II for a test walk but they probably didn’t expect them to get this kind of beating.
