Base Elements

The Urban Contemporary Art Gallery

Two Art Galleries/Creative Spaces located in the Gothic Quarter of Barcelona.

Base Elements has established itself as a leading creative space featuring street, graffiti and urban contemporary art. It opened in 2003 and quickly attracted the attention of the local street art community. The owner – Robert Burt, originally from Los Angeles – managed to showcase the most iconic local and international names in the gallery such as El Pez, Btoy, Dadara, J.Loca, Ivana Flores, Soem, to name a few.

Originally Situated in a 19th century local in Carrer de Palau 4, Base Elements is the right place to discover, hang out and learn about new concepts/styles, blooming in the urban contemporary art scene. The gallery is the perfect opportunity for the artists to take their work from the streets to the homes of passionate art buyers and global collectors. Now you can discover also the new space located in Carrer d’Avinyó 31.

The medieval sotano – the basement of the gallery – doubles up as an event space and working studio. Visitors will often get the chance to meet the artists and experience their creative process.

Base Elements is definitely a must-stop place in Barcelona. Come check out their amazing collection of works on canvas and paper; there is something for everybody!

Robert Burt (Founder & Curator)

Born in 1962 in Hollywood, Robert Burt is a self-taught artist and has achieved extensive experiences in being the driving force behind his numerous self-founded, bohemian projects. Over 20 years in the 80-90’s, Robert founded and promoted four avant-garde clubs in California: Activity, Atlas, Go and Geraldine. It lasted until 1994, when Robert began to study ceramics under the guidance of two master painters and sculptors.

Later this same year, he opened his first gallery and studio – called “Garage” – in San Diego. He maintained it for nine years until 2003, then moved to Barcelona to open Base Elements Urban Art Gallery.

Since then, Base Elements has attracted urban artists from both Barcelona and all over the world and continues to grow in popularity!

GREAT URBAN AND STREET ART – Always a must visit when in Barcelona! Really enjoy the chats with Robert the owner and his staff. Bought an awesome painting last time, reasonably priced and with a “No Worries” shipping to Germany by UPS. Looking forward to the next visit!

SUCH AN AWESOME EXPERIENCE – Exceptional art gallery with an incredibly kind owner who walked us through the space, and introduced us to a few of the artists who were working. He was very friendly and excited to share art with whomever walks through the doors without judgement or pressure. Such an awesome experience and so different than your typical modern-stuffy-gallery experience.

GREAT URBAN ART, GREAT SPACE –Great urban art, and a great space. A friendly welcome, and able to have a good wander round, including where the artists had pieces in progress. Also some interesting information on the building itself.
